The 2019 WNBA playoffs start Wednesday with the bottom-four seeds going head to head while the top-seeded Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun kick back and wait for the semifinal round, which starts on Sept. 17.

The regular season is finished and the bracket is set for the 2019 WNBA playoffs.

Entering Sunday, the eight-team postseason field was at that point secured and the Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun had secured the first and second overall seeds, respectively. Subsequently, they’re now through to the semifinals, bypassing the single-elimination first and second rounds.

Sunday’s outcomes solidified the staying six seeds. Here’s a look at the eight playoff teams, with the full schedule accessible at http://www.timebulletin.com.

2019 WNBA Playoffs Format

Following the WNBA regular season, the top eight teams in the overall league standings, regardless of conference alignment, qualified for the playoffs and were seeded 1 to 8. Seedings depended carefully on regular-season record. The team with the best record got the #1 seed, the team with the next best record got the #2 seed, etc. The top two seeds earned double byes (i.e., advanced directly to the semifinals), while the next two seeds got first-round byes.

These seedlings were utilized to make a bracket that decides the matchups all through the playoffs. The first round of the playoffs comprised of two matchups dependent on the seedings (5-8 and 6-7). The two champs advanced to the second round with a matchup between the number 3 seed and the lower of the advancing seeds and another matchup between the number 4 seed and the other first-round winner. The winners of the first two rounds advanced to the semi-finals, where the lower-ranked seed of the champs faces the number 1 seed, with the other remaining team confronting the number 2 seed.

The first two rounds were single-elimination games played on the higher ranking seed’s home court. The semi-finals and WNBA Finals are best-of-five series played in a 2-2-1 format, which means the team with home-court advantage (better record) hosts games 1, 2, and 5 while their rival host’s games 3 and 4.

Tiebreak methods

  • Better winning percentage among all head-to-head games including tied teams.
  • Better winning percentage against all teams with .500 or better record toward the end of the season.
  • Better point differential in games net result of total points scored less total points allowed head-to-head.
  • Better point differential net result of total points scored less total points permitted against all rivals.
  • Coin toss (or draw of lots, if at least 3 teams are as yet tied after the first 4 tiebreakers fail).
