2023 Copa Libertadores de Fútbol Playa: Teams, Groups, Format, Venues and More

The sixth iteration of the Copa Libertadores de Fútbol Playa, an annual continental beach soccer club competition mainly between the champions of the domestic leagues of South American countries that are members of CONMEBOL, will take place in 2023.

The CONMEBOL tournament is being organized in collaboration with the host association, the Paraguayan Football Association, and is scheduled to take place at Los Pynandi World Cup Stadium in Luque, Paraguay, from December 3rd to December 10th, 2023.

The current champions are the Paraguayan team, Presidente Hayes.

Format

The competition format is divided into two stages, the preliminary phase (group phase) and the final phase, per Regulations Article 15.

Group phase: Three groups of four teams are formed from the 12 teams, and each group plays a round-robin format with all of its teams competing. The top two teams in each group and the top two teams in the third place move on to the final stage’s quarterfinals.

Final phase: This stage consists of three knockout rounds (quarterfinals, semifinals, and championship match) as well as consolation rounds (five through twelfth place are determined by a series of classification matches between the nations eliminated from title-winning contention). In the ultimate phase, every match is played in a knockout style.

Teams

Twelve teams made the cut to play: the two defending champions and one extra club from the host nation, as well as the winners of each of the ten South American CONMEBOL member countries’ domestic leagues or Copa Libertadores qualifying events.
