On his many trips around the world, Oskar has been to Brazil, Argentina, Albania, Hawaii, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France (and La Réunion), Hong Kong, Hawaii, Switzerland, Cuba, Slovenia, Greece, Madagascar, the Netherlands, and Poland, taking his legendary travel photos which he shares on his Instagram account ( @oskar_brandt__).
How did you get started in photography?
My mother took me to an exhibition of Henri Cartier-Bresson when I was 7 years old. His photographs fascinated me so much that I decided to start taking pictures myself. I got my first camera, a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ3, when I turned 9. After that, I took several photography courses at the Design Academy Berlin. For my 13th birthday, I got the Nikon D5100 reflex camera and bought several lenses. With that camera, I shot my famous black and white photographs for my exhibition at CO Berlin. Since 2019, I have been publishing my travel photographs on my Instagram account.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
The first thing to do if you want to become an entrepreneur is basically to have an idea that is going to make a positive difference to other people’s lives.
You definitely need to believe in your idea. You’ve got to have passion for it and you’ve got to be able to inspire other people to have a passion for it too.
Another thing that has really helped me is learning how to switch off. During my travels, I learned that meditation can really help to boost success drive, and at the same time provide an opportunity to mentally unwind.
Finally, it is extremely important not to give up. There have been situations in my adventures, like crossing the pacific in a balloon, where the odds were stacked very heavily against us surviving. Regardless of the situation, follow your dreams
How do you handle all the stress that comes with being an entrepreneur?
People tend to think of fast cars, luxury vacations, and designer clothes when they hear the word “entrepreneur”, but for many, this is far from reality. The life of many entrepreneurs is filled with hard work, long hours, and stress – the sacrifices they make to achieve their goals. First, I try to break down the problem that is causing me stress. Afterward, I try to find simple solutions for the activities that cause stress. if it really becomes too much, I go to work out and meditate. I always feel very rested and ready for all the strenuous activities after a good workout or meditation session.
What obstacles have you faced in your journey, and how did you overcome them?
Not all people will always be happy with what you do. Take serious criticism to heart, but never let it distract you from your dreams. Those are the things I had to learn first.
If you are not feeling well at the moment, because of family or similar things, give yourself a break. Even if many people think we don’t have enough time, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t take time for the important things in our lives, for ourselves, our life partner, our family, and friends.
