AMUL is Now Ready to Enter the European Market after a Successful Launch in the US and Expands Global Footprint

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of AMUL and Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), indicated that AMUL’s recently launched milk in the United States has been “highly successful” and that the brand is now ready to enter the European market, which will be a historic milestone.

Delivering the 11th Dr Verghese Kurien Memorial Oration on “AMUL Model: Transforming Lives of Million” organized by a private business management institute here on Saturday, Mehta said, “India is now the largest milk producer in the world and is set to produce one-third of the world’s total milk in the coming years,” according to an XLRI statement.

“Dairy isn’t just a business—it’s a lifeline for rural India,” he said.

Mehta said Amul’s recent milk launch in the United States was “highly successful,” and the company is now preparing to enter the European market for the first time.

To remain relevant, Amul concentrates on providing protein-rich, organic, and chemical-free products that customers trust, while constantly expanding capacity and infrastructure, he said, applauding the ecosystem created by Dr. Kurien, AMUL’s founder.

Mehta said “If India could offer a gift to the world, it would be the cooperative working system—a gift Dr Kurien gave us. His belief in cooperation has sparked a new revolution in India.”

Amul collects around 310 lakh liters of milk daily, with 107 dairy plants across India and over 50 products, according to Mehta, who adds that 22 billion packs are sold each year.

He added that Amul has an annual income of Rs 80,000 crore and is today considered the world’s strongest dairy and food brand, having 36 lakh farmers as owners.

Dr. Verghese Kurien’s daughter, Nirmala Kurien, addressed the audience, stating that her father dared to dream more than a half-century ago that a milk-deficient country may one day become self-sufficient. She went on to say that India is currently the world’s greatest milk producer.

According to Fr S George, Director of XLRI Jamshedpur, Dr. Verghese Kurien’s life was distinguished by a desire to make a difference.
