Apple is getting ready to roll out iOS 27 to supported iPhone models, bringing an AI-enhanced Siri, expanded Apple Intelligence features and a range of updates to the iPhone’s native applications. Apple first introduced the software at WWDC 2026, and beta testing has been underway since June as the company works to polish the update ahead of its public launch.
Apple plans to make iOS 27 available for compatible iPhone models this fall, with the software expected to arrive after the company’s September 9 iPhone event. Although Apple has confirmed that the update will be released in the fall, it has yet to announce a specific date for its public availability. Based on Apple’s recent release schedule, September 14 has emerged as a potential launch date, though users should consider it only an estimate until the company provides official confirmation.
Apple has continued developing and testing iOS 27 since revealing it at WWDC 2026. The company published the eighth developer beta on August 31, indicating that the development process may now be concentrating on resolving outstanding problems, enhancing performance and getting the software ready for broader release. After launch, users will be able to install the final version through Settings > General > Software Update on their iPhones.
A major addition arriving with iOS 27 is a more capable Siri featuring expanded AI functionality. Apple says the assistant will have improved contextual understanding, greater ability to interpret information shown on the screen and access to web-based knowledge for more useful answers. Siri is also expected to perform certain actions spanning multiple applications. Apple Intelligence is also extending into apps such as Photos, Safari, Messages, Mail and Shortcuts, with Photos receiving new AI-powered editing capabilities. The update additionally brings new parental controls and safety-related features.
iOS 27 will work with a wide range of iPhone models, although access to some of its most advanced AI capabilities will depend on newer hardware. According to Apple, Apple Intelligence features in iOS 27 are available on the iPhone 16 series and newer models, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Users interested in testing new features ahead of the stable release can also join Apple’s public beta programme, although beta versions may include bugs and performance problems. September 14 is currently viewed as the likely date for the general release, but Apple has not officially confirmed that date.
