Apple Vision Pro headset goes on sale in the United States on February 2 and goes on preorder on January 19

Apple announced in a press release on Monday that the Vision Pro would go on sale in the United States on February 2; preorders will open on January 19.

On January 19, at 5 p.m. Pacific Time, preorders for the Vision Pro will open, as per the product page.

The company also announced that the Vision Pro would come with 256 GB of storage and that prescription lens inserts would run you $149.

A quarter of a percent was gained by Apple shares on Monday in premarket trading.

Apple’s response to Meta’s Quest headsets, the $3,500 headset has apparently been in development for years. The product was unveiled by Apple in 2023 during its Worldwide Developers Conference.

In a statement released on Monday, Apple CEO Tim Cook declared, “The era of spatial computing has arrived.” The same M2 chip that Apple uses in its computers powers the headset.

Since the release of the Apple Watch in 2015, Apple has introduced a new product category with the Vision Pro. Experts and analysts do not believe that the headset will initially generate a sizable amount of revenue. For example, UBS projects that Vision Pro’s revenue may reach $1.4 billion, a sum that is “relatively immaterial.”

Although a lot of businesses have pushed virtual reality in the past, neither enterprise nor consumer users have adopted it widely as of yet.

The Vision Pro features an input system that lets users control the headset with their voice, hands, or eyes in addition to a new operating system called VisionOS. According to Apple, several creative and productivity apps, such as Slack from Salesforce and the Microsoft Office suite, will function with Vision Pro.

Apple hopes to alter how consumers view video and gaming content with the new headset. According to the press release from the company, viewers will be able to view content from Apple TV+ and many other platforms on a virtual reality screen “that feels 100 feet wide.”
