Google Finance Launches Its First Android App With AI-Powered Investment Tools

Google Finance is far from a new service—it has existed for two decades, dating back to an era when it relied on Flash to display charts and graphs. Although the platform has received several significant redesigns over the years, it had never offered a dedicated mobile application until now. Google has officially introduced the first standalone Google Finance app, which is currently available exclusively on Android, with an iOS version scheduled to arrive later this year.

The application is rolling out globally through the Google Play Store, but that is not the only enhancement coming to Google’s financial platform. The AI-powered redesign of the Google Finance website is also exiting beta, making Google’s chatbot a permanent part of the overall experience. As expected, the new mobile app incorporates extensive generative AI features designed to help users better understand often unpredictable financial markets.

Anyone familiar with the redesigned Google Finance website will recognize many of the app’s core capabilities. Users can build watchlists, follow real-time market activity, and stay updated with financial news from a single location. While viewing stock performance charts, the app uses AI to generate “key moments” that explain the events behind price movements. This functionality first debuted on the Google Finance website in May.

The mobile application also introduces Google’s latest AI research assistant through the floating “Ask” button located at the bottom of the interface. The feature enables users to have conversations with Google’s finance-focused AI about stocks and market activity. A dedicated History tab in the bottom navigation bar also provides quick access to previous AI conversations.

Google says the current Android release represents only the beginning of its plans. Over time, the company intends to bring additional features from the redesigned website into the mobile app. As a result, several capabilities currently remain exclusive to the web version. While the app allows users to create watchlists by searching for stock symbols, the website includes a more comprehensive portfolio management system. Existing portfolios from the previous Google Finance experience will automatically transfer over while gaining new AI-generated insights and recommendations. Users can also import CSV or PDF files to create trackable portfolios within Google Finance. The AI chatbot can access portfolio information and provide responses based on those holdings.

The Google Finance website is also receiving a new AI-powered research feature capable of delivering recurring market updates. Google suggests prompts such as, “Send me a daily pre-market briefing analyzing significant overnight moves across major cryptocurrencies.”

Whether users are tracking cryptocurrencies or more traditional investments, completed AI research reports will trigger notifications through the mobile app. Those reports will also remain accessible from the research panel on the Google Finance website.
