Siri AI Will Expand to Five More Languages in October

Siri AI, Apple’s long-awaited overhaul of its digital assistant, will become available in five additional languages in October, the company announced today at its fall iPhone event. Siri AI is currently accessible in English through the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 betas, and it will become more widely available to English-speaking users when Apple releases those updates publicly on Monday, September 14. At today’s iPhone event, Apple said Siri AI would reach French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish-speaking users sometime next month.

Apple also confirmed that Siri AI will have daily usage limits for prompts requiring the assistant to rely on the company’s cloud-based AI models. The company has not yet provided additional details, but said its iCloud+ plans would provide higher usage limits.

Using Siri AI requires a recent iPhone. The digital assistant is supported as far back as the 2023 iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. On newer iPhones, beginning with the 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, more capable on-device models will provide improved speech recognition and dictation accuracy.

Siri AI will expand from one language to six in October. Apple confirmed the schedule in its iPhone 18 Pro press release. Siri AI launches with iOS 27 on Monday, September 14, initially supporting English only. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish are then “coming in October,” Apple says. The assistant will continue to carry a beta label.

That represents a more definite commitment than Apple provided in June. At that time, the company introduced Siri AI and said only that it would “quickly expand support for more languages.” Apple Intelligence itself, however, already supports 16 languages. As a result, Siri AI will remain behind the broader platform even after the October expansion.

Who Can Access Siri AI in September

Siri AI requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible device configured to use a supported language. According to Apple’s June release, supported hardware includes iPhone 16 or later, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads and Macs equipped with M1 or later. The list also includes the iPad mini with A17 Pro, MacBook Neo and Apple Vision Pro. Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 and SE 3 are eligible when connected to a supported iPhone. Additionally, Siri AI is unavailable to users under 13. It also will not debut in the EU on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS. Daily Usage Caps, With a Paid Option Ahead

Apple’s fine print introduces an important limitation. Features dependent on server-side models, including Siri AI, Image Playground and intelligent photo editing, are governed by daily usage limits. Apple says those limits differ according to the feature, the complexity of each request and system demand. The footnote also states, “Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future.” Meanwhile, Engadget reports that iCloud+ plans will include the expanded limits, although Apple’s own pages have not yet confirmed that detail. What Siri AI Can Actually Do

Siri AI is a redesigned assistant built on Apple Intelligence. To begin with, it accesses personal context from messages, emails and photos, while onscreen awareness allows it to respond to and act on whatever appears on the display. It can also provide answers to general questions using information from the web. In addition, a redesigned Siri app synchronizes conversation history between devices through iCloud. Within the Camera app, Siri mode allows users to point their phone at an object and ask questions about it. Requests are processed either on the device or through Private Cloud Compute, which Apple says does not retain personal data.

For people who speak languages other than English, October is the key date. Until that expansion arrives, Siri AI will remain an English-only beta with a daily usage cap, launching alongside the iPhone 18 Pro. This represents a more limited initial rollout than Apple’s June keynote suggested. Consequently, the October release will provide the first meaningful indication of how quickly Apple can expand the model beyond a single language.
