A New Way To Enjoy Regional Content: Akshay Bardapurkar’s Planet Marathi Begins Its Journey

“Planet suggests a separate space in the universe which projects Marathi as a universal language,” says Akshay Bardapurkar to Harshita Dagha as he launches the country’s first Marathi language OTT platform, which will host Marathi television shows, theatre, films, infotainment, reality shows, educational content for kids and much more.

So, what sets Planet Marathi apart from others?

The Inception of a Dream

Akshay Bardapurkar had a vision that was rooted in his profound love for his mother tongue and his keen observations: “Marathi films lack the edge in calculated box office releases. Planet Marathi aims to simplify this for talented filmmakers, who want to reach the global audience without worrying about consuming the budget on marketing the films rather than crafting it.”.

We have seen multiple regional OTT platforms crop up over the years and some of them are also reaching audiences beyond the borders of India and catering to the Indian diaspora elsewhere. The world is a great global village, so why not take Marathi to this level? Akshay agrees, “India has seen great Maharashtrians raising the flag and making this ancient culture proud…the only form of harnessing and aggregating this language and making it reach globally, I felt going digital was the only way.”

A Truly Unique Experience

Planet Marathi is undoubtedly the first of its kind, so the unique concept of its objective has caused quite the stir among audiences. Akshay and his partners are promising a range of content never seen before. “I assure you just like the fact that we have been unique with our announcements, the range of content is going to be massive and no other platform in India will have such a diverse way of getting people hooked!” Bardapurkar, elated, tells Harshita Dagha.

Planet Marathi, with its unique inception based out of love for the language, seems to pique interests across and we can’t wait to see what it brings to us in the future!
