Apple’s next iPhone software release, iOS 27, is approaching, and it will bring a range of new features to Apple CarPlay.
iOS 27 is expected to arrive on Apple devices next month, bringing another round of changes to CarPlay as well.
A number of interesting additions appear to be on the way, potentially making the driving experience even more convenient.
Here are the new features expected to arrive in Apple CarPlay with the upcoming iOS 27 software.
A more advanced and intelligent version of Siri will be one of the major elements included in the iOS 27 update.
The upgraded assistant will allow users to have hands-free conversations.
Siri conversations conducted through CarPlay will also be synchronized with the Siri app on the connected iPhone.
Every app category will now include an option for voice control, something that was not available in the previous version.
Apps will also have the ability to incorporate a voice-control template designed for conversations.
Another addition is a persistent mini-player that will be accessible through the Now Playing feature.
It displays artwork along with playback controls in the upper-right corner of audio applications, while the Now Playing interface in CarPlay will also gain a progress bar.
CarPlay will gain the new wallpapers introduced with iOS 27, with each option adapted specifically for the in-car software.
There will be 14 choices available, while the updated software will also accommodate larger content thumbnails.
Apps including Maps and Weather will additionally receive updated Liquid Glass icons.
Apple has also introduced improvements to language-related functionality within CarPlay.
These changes extend to navigation through Maps, making it simpler to ask Siri for directions while avoiding options such as toll roads and highways.
Google Maps and Apple Maps will now be able to provide route information to the vehicle.
That information can include recommended locations for EV charging stops as well as places to take any necessary rest breaks.
Apple has also made efforts to increase GPS accuracy within the navigation system.
The company has additionally worked to make Wireless CarPlay connections more dependable.
The newest version of Apple CarPlay will introduce video browsing functionality.
When the vehicle is parked, users will be able to browse and watch videos through the car’s infotainment system.
As expected, video playback will be disabled while the vehicle is moving.
