KISS Scores Highest Billboard Top Album Sales Position in More Than a Decade

KISS has achieved its highest-charting release on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart in more than 10 years, with KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 opening at No. 8 on the chart dated Sept. 5. The archival live release gives the band its strongest position on the tally since 2012, when its final studio album, Monster, debuted and reached its No. 3 peak in October 2012.

KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 marks the 50th anniversary of the group’s Aug. 20, 1976 performance at Anaheim Stadium, where KISS performed before its largest audience at the time: 42,000 people. Recorded during KISS’ The Spirit of ’76 Tour, also known as the Destroyer Tour, the performance has been newly mixed for its first official commercial release in a variety of physical and digital formats.

The album features live versions of several KISS staples, including “Detroit Rock City,” “Strutter,” “Shout It Out Loud” and “Rock and Roll All Nite.” KISS Destroys Anaheim ’76 also appears on several additional Billboard charts, placing at No. 8 on Indie Store Album Sales, No. 16 on Vinyl Albums, No. 12 on Top Hard Rock Albums, No. 48 on Top Rock & Alternative Albums and No. 173 on the overall Billboard 200. With its Billboard 200 appearance, the release becomes KISS’ 37th chart entry.

Elsewhere on the Top Album Sales chart dated Sept. 5, ENHYPEN earns its fifth No. 1 with THE SIN : BLISS debuting at the top, while Weezer and Twenty One Pilots see their respective new projects enter the top 10 at Nos. 4 and 5.
