Outgrowing Isn’t Giving Up: Hayson Tasher Sr. on Choosing Growth
Sometimes, the biggest opportunities begin when you realize you have outgrown where you are. For Hayson Tasher Sr., that realization became the beginning of a journey built on opportunity, self-investment, persistence, and an unwavering belief in his vision.
Based in Gardena, California, Hayson Tasher Sr. has built his career in the security industry by continually pushing himself beyond the limits of his previous roles. His journey eventually led him toward establishing OLDPGS SECURITY MANAGEMENT, a brand shaped by his experience, certifications, licenses, and determination to create something of his own.
His story is not one of easy paths. It is a story about recognizing opportunity, building a door when one does not appear, and continuing forward even when circumstances could have made giving up seem easier.
From Outgrowing Employment to Building an Opportunity
Hayson’s journey was influenced by a simple idea he once heard: “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.” For him, those words became more than a saying.
He remembers receiving a call from Samuel Scott, who was in business development. Scott had noticed Hayson’s patrol car, including its cherries, as well as his uniforms and other equipment. He told Hayson about an opportunity involving a 7-Eleven location in Los Angeles, California, where the Bloods and Crips were wanting security so that the community could visit the store and families and children could feel safe.
Hayson ultimately took on the details.
Over time, however, he began to outgrow the security companies where he had worked as an employee. Rather than allowing his circumstances to define his future, he began investing in himself. He pursued more certifications and licenses and continued developing his qualifications.
Before he knew it, Hayson had become qualified to work on responsibilities that, according to his experience, managers at the firm and even their supervisors could not handle. That growth became an important part of the journey toward creating his own brand.
The Determination Behind OLDPGS SECURITY MANAGEMENT
Building OLDPGS SECURITY MANAGEMENT did not come easily. Hayson openly acknowledges the struggles involved in reaching the point of having his own company.
He recalls working with a security company that did not sign over his hours. He later worked toward legally having a security company, only to face another challenge before eventually getting it signed two years later by another security company.
For many people, those obstacles might have been enough to abandon the goal. Hayson chose not to.
As he explains, he never said that opening OLDPGS came easy. The difference was that he never gave up. He genuinely believed in the brand, and his drive remained strong because his vision was clear: the company was going to be founded regardless of the challenges.
That determination continues to shape his work today. Hayson remains active in day-to-day operations, including field security details and in-house management operations alongside affiliates. His continued involvement in both areas is something he identifies as setting him apart from his peers and competitors.
The values behind the brand are reflected in two simple statements: “Security you can count on” and “Dedicated to a safe and secure environment.”
A Vision Built Around Opportunity
Today, OLDPGS SECURITY MANAGEMENT provides a range of security-related services, including armed and unarmed uniformed guards, SB1626 school security, investigations and loss prevention, consulting services, management services, and more.
Hayson’s achievements also include being a 2022 and 2023 Business Hall of Fame Award recipient from the City of Pasadena.
His vision for the future continues to build on the “OLD PATROLMAN BRAND.” He envisions retail locations featuring items such as tactical wear, security technology, firearms, and more. His future plans also include security training centers and an OLDPGS sister event-only security company.
At the heart of Hayson’s journey is one word: opportunity. His experience demonstrates the importance he places on recognizing possibilities, investing in oneself, and refusing to abandon a clear vision simply because the road becomes difficult.
For Hayson Tasher Sr., outgrowing a situation was not the end of the journey. It was the point where he began building the door to something of his own.
