Watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Cast Members Get Back Together After 20 Years

America Ferrera celebrated her nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Critics Choice Awards on Friday. She was in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. Ferrera was joined by her co-stars from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, a 2005 film, which was her very different movie.

The Barbie star is still friends with the sisterhood nearly two decades later. She posed for photos with Amber Tamblyn, Blake Lively, and Alexis Bledel. Happy Sad Confused podcast host Josh Horowitz first shared the news on X, formerly known as Twitter. He wrote, “I just need everyone to know I witnessed the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants women reunite in front of my eyes tonight and Blake Lively and I talked about how lazy Santa is.”

Subsequently, Ferrera posted a video of the group posing in their ensembles to her Instagram page. Her friends used the pink theme to honor Barbie. Lively accessorized in a bubblegum pink sleeveless dress, fluffy skirt, opera gloves that reached her elbows, and matching pointed heels. Tamblyn was wearing a pink suit over a white blouse, and Bledel was wearing a pink pencil skirt, black top, and blazer with open-toe pumps. Ferrera wore black tights, black shoes, and a long-sleeved white wrap dress.

“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in Barbie last night. I love these women with all my heart,” Ferrera wrote in the caption.

Based on Ann Brashares’ novel of the same name, the original film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants tells the story of four girls who share a pair of jeans that fits them all magically and keep them together as their lives begin to change. After the 2008 release of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, there has been much debate over the years regarding the possibility of a third installment.

On The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in 2018, Bledel talked about the group’s enduring friendship and said,  “We don’t get to see each other a lot because everybody’s work or family and everything…But when everybody is in town we do, and we just pitched a third movie and I hope it comes together. It would be so great.”

Lively told Entertainment Tonight soon after, “I think it could really happen. I think that people who love the movie want to see it. So, I mean, fans have gotten bigger movies made.”

Ferrera stated that the dream was still alive in 2019. “Fingers crossed that something comes to fruition with that, but it’s been a vision and a dream of ours for a while now…We’re all moms now. We’ve all got a lot going on, but we’ve got a beautiful friendship and we love these movies and we love this story and our friendship together [and] the friendship of these girls. So, we’re sticking with it and we’ll see what happens.”

However, those aspirations have been postponed due to COVID-19 and other strikes that have stopped production. Nonetheless, Tamblyn gave fans new hope in 2022 when she appeared on Jessica Shaw’s Pop Culture Spotlight on Sirius XM.

“It’s very complicated for a lot of reasons, some of which include just the fact that between the four of us, we all have, like, 870 children,” she joked. “I know that that is a great hope for all four of us, is to be able to work together again. To me, it feels like the ultimate grift where I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, we’re gonna get paid to hang out when we do that in real life anyway? Cool. I’m in.’”

The hangout has already begun.
