Copenhagen Fashion Week 2022 will go fur-free for the first time in its history

All with its Spring/Summer 2023 season in full force, Copenhagen Fashion Week has announced that it will go fur-free, banning fur from its taking part brands and shows. The city joins any semblance of Oslo, Amsterdam, and Helsinki in a forward-thinking move for the fashion world.

The event, which happens from August 9-12, continues in a suit of Amsterdam, Helsinki, and Oslo fashion weeks which have all ditched the cruel material.

As the fashion industry gradually transitions from normal to counterfeit fur, Copenhagen made a statement of intent by announcing a fur ban on all partaking brands at the city’s Fashion Week.

The Danish capital joins adjoining cities like Oslo, Amsterdam, and Helsinki, setting a model until the end of the fashion world. The news comes after probably the most significant fashion houses announced to go without fur, including Kering’s Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga, as well as Moncler.

Mimi Bekhechi, PETA Vice President for Europe, said: “PETA and compassionate fashionistas everywhere are celebrating the news that Copenhagen Fashion Week will go fur-free. The event will now join the fashion weeks of Amsterdam, Helsinki, Oslo, and others as well as brands like Gucci, Versace, Prada, Valentino, Armani, Chanel, and just about every other major fashion brand that has already banned animal fur.”

Remarkably, Paris and Milan Fashion Weeks have still not chosen to go fur-free, and Thomas Pietsch, Head of Wild Animals in Entertainment and Textiles at FOUR PAWS, must “immediately decide to join the majority of the European shows in banning this promotion of this inhumane and unsustainable practice.”

“The momentum with banning fur farming and in particular as a practice in fashion is at a historic moment and a major turning point. What we are witnessing is consumers saying en masse that they want the brands they buy from to be in favor of animal welfare,” he added.

In addition to the fact that Copenhagen is safeguarding our shaggy friends, on the other hand, they’re one of the leading fashion a long time in the world with regards to pushing sustainability. In 2020, CEO Cecilie Thorsmark shared that Copenhagen-fashion week would have designers meet sustainability requirements to show over time. She affirmed that CPHFW will start implementing this adjustment in 2023, beginning with the Fall/Winter 2023 season.

While very few Danish brands are completely impacted by this choice, it denotes a significant change with Denmark being one of the greatest fur exporters in the world.

Besides the utilization of fur, Copenhagen Fashion Week is one of the biggest fashion long time on the world that keeps on pushing for sustainability. In mid-2020, CEO Cecilie Thorsmark shared that CPHFW would have designers meet sustainability requirements to show over time. At the opening ceremony of the SS23 season, she affirmed that CPHFW will start implementing this change in 2023, getting going with the Fall/Winter 2023 season.
