Date for the 2023 G-Day spring game is set by Georgia football

After winning the national championship for the second time in a row on Jan. 9, the Georgia Bulldogs are still basking at the moment. The Bulldogs’ success in 2022 was worthy of celebration, but it will be soon that they return to Sanford Stadium.

According to a press release that can be found on the website of the university’s alumni association, Georgia will hold its 2023 G-Day spring scrimmage on April 15. The Bulldogs will compete against one another in an exhibition during the intra-squad scrimmage, which will officially conclude the 2023 spring practice session.

At this point, there is no information about TV broadcasting or the kickoff time.

The Bulldogs are hoping for the same kind of success in 2023 as they had in 2022.

After dominating Oregon 49-3 in the opening game of the season in Atlanta, Georgia went on to defeat Samford 33-0 in Week 2 and South Carolina 48-7 in Week 3. The Bulldogs got back on track with wins over Kent State (39-22) and Missouri (26-22) in Weeks 4 and 5, respectively, by crushing Auburn (42-10) and Vanderbilt (55-0), respectively.

After a bye week, the Bulldogs defeated Florida 42-20 in Week 9 and significantly restrained Tennessee 27-13 in Week 10. In the final game of the regular season, the Bulldogs defeated Mississippi State 45-19 in Week 11, defeated Kentucky 16-6 in Week 12, and held Georgia Tech to a 37-14 score. The Bulldogs won their first SEC championship since 2017 when Georgia returned to Atlanta on December 3 and defeated LSU 50-30.

In the Peach Bowl, No. 1 Georgia rallied late to defeat No. 4 Ohio State 42-41 and advance to the national title game. The Bulldogs’ January 9 matchup with No. 3 TCU turned out to be easy work, as Georgia defeated the Horned Frogs 65-7 to win consecutive national titles and the program’s fourth national title.

The Bulldogs won the national championship for the first time since the Alabama Crimson Tide did so in 2011 and 2012, making them the first team in the sport’s playoff history to do so.

The Bulldogs will return some significant playmakers for the upcoming season, but they will be without several key players from the 2022 team.

This offseason, several valuable Georgia players will join the NFL, including quarterback Stetson Bennett, running back Kenny McIntosh, tight end Darnell Washington, offensive tackles Broderick Jones and Warren McClendon, defensive tackle Jalen Carter, outside linebackers Nolan Smith and Robert Beal, cornerback Kelee Ringo, and safety Chris Smith. Wide receiver Dominick Blaylock, tight ends Brett Seither (Georgia Tech) and Arik Gilbert (Nebraska), offensive tackle Jacob Hood (Nebraska), defensive lineman Bill Norton (Arizona), inside linebacker Trezmen Marshall (Alabama), outside linebacker MJ Sherman (Nebraska), and cornerback Jaheim Singletary are among the notable players who chose to enter the transfer portal and spend 2023 somewhere else.

As Georgia attempts to maintain its position as the best team in college football, it will be up to the returning Bulldogs to fill some of the voids created by their departing teammates.

The public is welcome to attend the spring scrimmage. At a later time, additional information regarding the start time is anticipated. The ongoing construction on the stadium’s south side is expected to limit attendance. In August of 2023, completion of the construction is anticipated.

Georgia’s 2023 regular season will begin on September 2 against UT-Martin at home.
