Discovering the Importance of Ocean Conservation and Raising Awareness on World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day is celebrated on June 8 every year. At the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, the Canadian government first suggested celebrating this day. The day is now celebrated in nearly 120 countries in a variety of ways, including special events at zoos, aquariums, river and beach clean-ups, conservation programs, film festivals, school activities, and art contests.

The world’s oceans are great, covering over 70% of the Earth’s surface and supporting a huge array of life. The annual celebration of World Ocean Day on June 8 serves as a reminder of the significance of our oceans and the urgency with which they must be protected.

As we probably are aware, 70% of the earth is covered by colossal water bodies that consistently merge into one another to form seas and afterward fill the oceans. Until now, mankind has had the option to investigate just 5% f the depth of the ocean yet the manner in which it has been contaminated with trash and plastic has seriously affected the flora and fauna thriving on the ocean floors.

Why are oceans so significant?

Oceans play a crucial role in the lives of both you and every other living thing on this planet. This is due to the fact that marine plants provide more than 70% of the oxygen that is necessary for life to survive, where life originated.

The ocean controls the climate by providing warmth in the winter and coolness in the summer. From medications to various food varieties, oceans offer us so many things in various ways. As a result, protecting the oceans and keeping them clean and free of toxins is critical.

The Magnificence of Our Oceans:

A Visual Journey Immerse yourself in the stunning excellence of our oceans. The underwater world, with its vibrant coral reefs and majestic marine creatures, is a mesmerizing sight to behold. Admire and protect the remarkable diversity found in our oceans with the captivating images of colorful fish darting through crystal-clear waters and awe-inspiring landscapes as your motivation.

Understanding the Challenges:

The health and stability of our oceans are in jeopardy as a result of numerous obstacles. Pollution, overfishing, environmental change, and habitat destruction have detrimental effects on marine ecosystems. These dangers disturb the delicate balance of life within our oceans and compromise their ability to sustain biodiversity. It is pivotal to raise awareness about these issues and take action to address them.

What issues do oceans currently face?

The most pressing issue currently confronting oceans is plastic pollution. It can be addressed by avoiding single-use plastic, such as plastic bottles and bags.

Extreme weather conditions have resulted from a rise in temperature caused by air pollution, a decrease in green coverage on the planet, the release of harmful gases from industries and vehicles, and the depletion of the ozone layer. All of these factors have ultimately put many marine organisms in the sea and ocean at risk.

How can we help?

Every individual can make a unique contribution to the cause on World Ocean Day 2023 by participating in activities to clean up rivers or beaches, organizing a local event, printing posters or pamphlets, and handing them out to groups.

Digital platforms can also be used to raise awareness of this day and the issues facing the oceans by sending insightful messages.
