On Wednesday, September 18th, 38 Special will take the stage at First Financial Music Hall by storm. The concert, sponsored by Murphy USA, will take place in tandem with the El Dorado Shootout, a renowned women’s EPSON Tour golf competition that takes place at Mystic Creek Golf Club from September 20 to 22. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. after doors open for the event at 6:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, February 16th at 10 am CST, with prices ranging from $44 to $149. Reservations are made for seats.

“We will be “Rockin’ into the Night” September 18th at MAD thanks to presenting sponsor Murphy USA. 38 Special is a staple in the Southern Rock genre and we’re happy to finally have them perform inside the First Financial Music Hall,” said MAD President and CEO Pam Griffin.

38 Special still tours more than 100 cities annually with their distinctive brand of Southern Rock, more than 40 years after they first started. Thousands of people witness the band’s explosive performance at every show, and they are always in awe. Their numerous Gold and Platinum album honors are proof of a legendary powerhouse’s tenacity.

“Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’,” “Second Chance,” and other timeless hits that are still a radio mainstay and instantly recognizable from the first opening chord are what most people associate the band with, despite their sales exceeding 20 million.

Don Barnes, a guitarist and singer, states that keeping that intensity throughout their live performances is crucial. We had no intention of becoming one of those bands that had become a little too easygoing or comfortable over time. As a team, we’ve always operated under the sort of unwritten rule that we don’t just work hard; we work hard. Every night, we go out there hoping to win.”

Bassist Barry Dunaway, drummer Gary Moffatt, and keyboardist/vocalist Bobby Capps round out the group. Guitarist and vocalist Jerry Riggs, a legendary virtuoso, recently joined the band.

The band has put out over 15 albums since 1976. Since the beginning, they have not stopped touring, introducing their distinctive style of “muscle and melody” to audiences all over the world.

Barnes adds, “This music keeps our wheels on the road. We’re a band that’s tried to stay honest with what has driven us over the years. We started with nothing but bold determination to make our own history and to endure. Looking back now, it has been our greatest pride to have persevered and attained that level of success and longevity. For us, it’s the ultimate validation.”

“The magic’s still there,” adds Barnes. “It’s an emotional high for us to keep ‘bringing it’ after all these years. When those lights go down and we all walk up those steps to the stage and hear that crowd roar, it’s a real rush to the head. It feels like we’re getting ready to strap ourselves in and it just takes off from there.”
