Leading tycoons like Gautam Adani and Satya Nadella helping India tackle the pandemic

Under the leadership of Gautam Adani, the Adani Group has turned AdaniVidyaMandir School in Ahmedabad into Covid-19 Care Centre. Similarly, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pledged resources and technical support for India’s fight against the pandemic

As of May 3, Delhi reported over 18,000 new covid-19 cases, with an almost 30 percent positivity rate. The entire country is seeing new records every day. Considering the figure and the distressing condition millions of people are in, efforts are pouring in from all corners – be it the business moguls like Gautam Adani, CEOs like Satya Nadella, or common men.

Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group on April 30, said that the Adani Foundation would transform AdaniVidyaMandir School in Ahmedabad, Gujarat into a Covid-19 Care Centre. The initiative was undertaken to”lighten the ever-increasing patient load” at the hospitals. However, this is not the first time that the Adani Group has stepped up for a noble cause amidst the second wave of the pandemic.

With thousands of people across the nation literally gasping for oxygen, the group arranged four ISO tanks with about 80 tonnes of liquid oxygen from Saudi Arabia on April 26. It has also procured liquid oxygen tanks from Thailand and Dubai, with the obtainment of over 5,000 more medical-grade oxygen cylinders from Linde Saudi Arabia still underway.

Just like the entrepreneurs based in India such as Gautam Adani, several Indian-American billionaires too are waking up to the pandemic crisis back home.

Taking to his social media platform, Satya Nadella, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, wrote that the company will leverage its resources and technology to bolster the ongoing relief efforts and support the purchase of oxygen concentration devices. Last year when the pandemic initially broke out, his wife, AnupamaNadella made a generous donation of around Rs 2 crore to the PM-CARES Fund for helping India combat Covid-19.

From the sports fraternity, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is among the few who have emerged as ‘COVID Samaritans’. He recently donated Rs 1 crore for the procurement of oxygen concentrators for Covid-19 patients.

In addition to the initiatives by these bigwigs, common men to are putting their best foot forward in their humanitarian efforts. While many have been donating money through the PM Cares Fund or NGOs, others are volunteering for services on the ground.
