The Royal Mint with UK collectible coin honors the Rolling Stones for its 60th anniversary

Share

The Rolling Stones may be looking for money, but they’re also looking for money in the UK right now! To commemorate the Rolling Stones’ 60th anniversary, the Royal Mint has produced a set of coins. They depict Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and the late drummer Charlie Watts in a silhouette of the band performing live.

The legendary band’s 60th anniversary is being commemorated by making them the face of a new collectible coin by Britain’s Royal Mint, the country’s oldest company and official manufacturer of British coins.

The currencies are another expansion to the Mint’s Music Legends collection, which already includes Queen and The Who. According to the Mint, Hannah Phizacklea designed the new coins to “celebrate the global impact of their music” and to reflect “the energy and excitement” of a Stones show.

The Rolling Stones collectible coin is the fifth in The Royal Mint’s “Music Legends” series, which features original new designs to honor legendary British artists. One of The Royal Mint’s most well-liked international coin collections, this most recent coin features designs in honor of the Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, and The Who.

The coin, designed by Hannah Phizacklea, celebrates the global impact of The Stones’ music by combining elements of their instruments, stage presence, heritage, and fashion. The band in their element, mid-performance, is depicted in a silhouette illustration on the custom coin that reflects the energy and excitement of attending their gigs.

A silhouette image of the band performing and the band’s name in what is described as its 1973 classic font are featured on the ‘Made to Rock’ 5-pound ($6.07) coin.

On the coin, you can see frontman Mick Jagger, guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood, and the late drummer Charlie Watts.

In a statement included in the Royal Mint’s announcement, the band stated, “We are delighted to be honored by way of an official UK coin. Even more significant than the release coincides with our 60th anniversary.”

The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, which honors British artists, is represented by the new coin, which is the fifth in the series. Queen, Elton John, David Bowie, and The Who are among the other artists honored in the series.

Similar collectibles from the Music Legends series can be purchased for between 15 pounds (18.12 USD) and 465 pounds (561.92 USD).

Rebecca Morgan, director of collector services at The Royal Mint, stated, “Our Music Legends series is creating a new generation of coin collectors. We hope this provides a fitting tribute to the band’s 60 years of rock and roll music for their millions of fans across the globe. The Rolling Stones are UK rock legends, and we anticipate this coin being incredibly sought-after by coin collectors and music lovers alike.”

The Royal Mint said this coin is extraordinary in light of the fact that it’s one of the last to honor the life and service of Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September at 96.

In the statement, Morgan added, “The coin is also one of the last to be released bearing the effigy of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marking a significant moment in history.”

The Rolling Stones were back on the road this year with their 2022 European “Sixty” tour, finishing off with Berlin in August.

The Rolling Stones have wowed fans all over the world with their timeless hits, classic albums, and iconic performances ever since they formed in 1962. The Rolling Stones are regarded as “The Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World,” and they are a legendary band with appeal across generations. They are also one of the bands with the most sales in British music history.

The Rolling Stones coin is produced by The Royal Mint and Bravado, Universal Music Group’s leading merchandise and brand management company. It is available in Brilliant Uncirculated and limited-edition precious metal Proof editions. The color of the Brilliant Uncirculated coin is also exclusive to The Royal Mint.
