What To Do If You Have An Unplanned Pregnancy according to Gynae Centre

An unplanned pregnancy is a huge shock. However, you don’t have to panic. You are not alone because at least half of recorded pregnancies are unplanned. Here is what you need to do immediately.

1.         Make An Appointment With Your Primary Care Doctor

Your doctor will be able to figure out how far along you may be in your pregnancy. The doctor will also advise you on the next steps to take. If you are not planning on keeping the baby, you may consider having an abortion or giving up the baby for adoption. You can buy the abortion pill online if you are not far along.

If you are not sure how long it has been since your last period, make sure your doctor is aware. Don’t forget to inform them if you are taking any prescription medication or over-the-counter drugs. Additionally, make sure your doctor is aware of any conditions such as depression or diabetes. Your doctor will advise on the next steps or refer you to a specialist for the best care.

2.         Start Taking Pre-vitamins And Folic Acid

If you haven’t started already, you need to start taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid. Note that, folic acid reduces the risk of spinal cord, spine and brain defects in babies. For the folic acid to work, it needs to be in your system before and during the first few weeks of your pregnancy.

3.         Stop Taking Drugs & Alcohol

If you take alcohol, use drugs or some cigarettes, you need to stop immediately since they can be harmful to your baby.

4.         Take Proper Care Of Yourself

If you weren’t planning to become pregnant, you may start feeling depressed or stressed. Well, you need to talk to your doctor or a mental health professional immediately. Make sure you drink lots of water and eat healthily to boost your energy levels. Remember, you are very delicate during pregnancy so you need to take good care of yourself to avoid any disasters during your pregnancy.

5.         Avoid Risky Activities

You need to avoid anything that may put your pregnancy at risk such as cat litter since cat feces may lead to toxoplasmosis (a dangerous infection), raw meat, seafood (high in mercury such as swordfish, tuna and shark meat) and unpasteurized foods.
