3 Common Struggles Men Face

Share

Because men are less likely to talk about their problems, there are many things they struggle with that are not fully understood. The first step to helping men is to talk about these struggles openly to decrease their stigma. Too often, men do not discuss their problems because they don’t want to be seen as weak. This comes from generations of men being told that men don’t cry and that showing emotion is a sign of weakness. Men are told not to care about how they look or dress because that is seen as feminine, but in reality, men face many of the same struggles that women face, and it is important to speak out about these struggles so that they can live their best lives.

Here are three common struggles that men face.

1. Low Testosterone

As men age, their testosterone levels naturally decrease, leading to many issues, including erectile dysfunction, hair loss, muscle loss, fatigue, loss of stamina, and weight gain. There is no specific age that testosterone starts to decline, and there is no way to know ahead of time when or how much it will decline. Men need to talk to their doctors if they start experiencing problems, including those listed that may be caused by low testosterone. One option is to take a natural testosterone booster to supplement the decreased testosterone in their system.

A natural testosterone booster can increase sex drive and muscle mass and improve overall health. It contains all-natural ingredients, and while there shouldn’t be concern over negative side effects, it is important to tell your doctor when taking a testosterone supplement. A natural booster is not intended to replace natural testosterone but rather add to what is already there without medication.

2. Fashion

While fashion used to be something primarily women worried about, the world of fashion now deeply involves men. However, many men may be hesitant to ask for help regarding the way they look or dress. Websites like thequintessentialman.com target men with information and resources to help them look and feel better about themselves, and the Quintessential Man in particular is a lifestyle website that is dedicated to men living their best lives and provides tips for dressing for success. When taking care of yourself and increasing muscle mass, you may want to dress in a way that highlights weight loss and muscle gain.

3. Mental Health Issues

Culturally, men have not always felt welcome to be open about their feelings or mental struggles because men are supposed to be strong, and showing emotions is often perceived as weak. While this mindset is slowly changing, it is still often difficult for men to open up when struggling with depression or anxiety. Low testosterone can contribute to depression, so the negative feelings may be the result of a chemical imbalance. In recent years, mental health awareness and suicide prevention for men have gotten increased attention. Many have realized the crisis within society for men unable to reach out for help.

Generations of men have been raised with the idea that being emotional is weak and feminine. The rate of suicide, suicide attempts, substance use disorder, and depression has increased dramatically. This has led to a mental health crisis on the verge of being out of control. Normalizing seeking help for mental health issues will decrease many of the struggles faced by men in U.S. society.

Acknowledging issues men struggle with and making helpful resources more available will allow men to get the help they need to live their best lives. Regardless of whether the issue is medical, mental, or social, men should have all of the resources possible to address their struggles.
