World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated every year on February 2nd by countries across the world to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for individuals and our planet. WWD is additionally an event to remember the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in the Iranian city of Ramsar in 1971. This year marks 50 years of the Convention of Wetlands of International Importance, known as the Ramsar Convention.
