Interview with Singer and Songwriter “Mel Maryns”

How did you come by your stage name?

My real name is Melissa Marins, but since I was little everyone used to call me “Mel” as a nickname all the time. So I decided to change a little bit my second name a by adding a “y” to “Marins” and it turned out to “Mel Maryns” which I love it and it’s so cool.

What makes your music unique? How would you describe it?

I think that what makes my music unique is that it’s genuinely just me, just who I am, it’s how I want it to sound like and I think being who you make it special. I would describe my music as Mel Maryns. My music has that “pop” rock style. I love to rock out. My music is like my brain, my feelings, so everything that I feel I put it into lyrics and melodies. I love to write my own music.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – family, friends, or work?

It’s not that hard to balance my music with my family as we are always singing, creating, and composing. I’m so lucky to have parents that support me and are always helping me to achieve my dreams!

To what or whom do you accredit your sense of style?

To myself, I’m a really creative person and I like to design my clothes, my makeup, my hair. I love fashion and the fact that you can put your personality into clothes is really cool.

How did you become involved in music production?

I’ve been singing since I was a little kid, my dad used to play guitar and there was always music in the house, we used to always sing together and I always had this really good feeling when I used to sing as if that was my destiny. knowing that, I started writing my own original songs, I learned how to play the piano and after a while, I started singing on the streets and I just knew that singing was my passion and it felt like it was meant to be. I started producing my own songs and releasing them on Spotify and all music platforms.

Where do you find your artistic inspiration?

Well for me I find inspiration in everything even when I’m having a bad day, which leads me to write sad emotional songs. It’s very rare for me to not have inspiration as I’m always listening to music and reading.

You can find all of Mel’s music available via Spotify and be sure to follow her on all her social media pages below so you don’t miss the new album when it drops!
