Sudirman Cup 2023: Full Schedule, Dates, Venues, Groups, How to Watch, and More

The Sudirman Cup will begin on Sunday, May 14, 2023. In the Mixed Team Badminton event, the best shuttlers in the world will compete as a team on behalf of their countries. The biennial event will be played in Suzhou, China. In the multi-nation competition, PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy will represent India.

The competition was initially scheduled to be held in Suzhou in 2021. However, the tournament was moved to Vantaa, Finland, because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Suzhou is all set to host the tournament’s 18th edition two years later.

From 14-21 May, the BWF Sudirman Cup, the world mixed team championships, will be held in Suzhou, People’s Republic of China, where the best badminton players from around the world will compete.

After a two-year delay, Suzhou is now hosting the Sudirman Cup, which was initially scheduled to take place in 2021 (Vantaa, Finland, took over as host in 2021). China, the host nation, is the Sudirman Cup’s defending champion and one of only three winners since its inception in 1989.

The Sudirman Cup, previously won by Indonesia and the Republic of Korea, is in its 18th year. The four-group, 16-team format will be used for the second time.

The tournament will feature 16 teams all competing. They are divided into four groups, each with four teams. This edition’s top two seeded countries are China and Japan.

When will the Sudirman Cup 2023 happen?

The Sudirman Cup 2023 will happen from May 14 to May 21.

The 18th edition of the Sudirman Cup will start on May 14 and the final of the prestigious competition will occur on May 21. The dates for the event, which will take place in China, were announced earlier this year.

India won the bronze medal at the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships, which earned them a spot in the Sudirman Cup in 2023. Now, their goal is to make the Sudirman Cup history.

Where will the 2023 Sudirman Cup take place?

The much-anticipated Sudirman Cup 2023 will be in Suzhou Olympic Sports Centre, China. Prior, it should happen in Delhi when the city was awarded the hosting rights back in November 2018 yet presently India has acknowledged the offer to host the 2026 BWF Badminton World Championships in exchange.

What is the format for the Sudirman Cup 2023?

During the group stage, each team will compete against another team in their group. The top two ranked teams will then qualify for the quarter-finals after which the champs will qualify for the semi-finals and the finals in the traditional manner.

BWF Sudirman Cup 2023: Schedule

The competition at the badminton world mixed team championships, the Sudirman Cup Finals, will happen over eight days in Suzhou.

From 14 to 18 May, there will be two daily sessions for the group matches, at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time (UTC + 8 hours).

The quarter-finals will follow on 19 May, with the semi-finals on 20 May, and the Sudirman Cup Final on 21 May. The exact session times for these days are to be affirmed.
