Origins of Vault Boy will be revealed in Amazon’s upcoming Fallout series
More information about Amazon’s upcoming Fallout series on Prime Video has been made public. Before the show’s April premiere, the company teased Vanity Fair with the first pictures from the production. Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), who has lived a comfortable life underground as a naive newcomer to the post-apocalyptic surface world, is the main character in this video game adaptation based on the franchise.
The events of the series occur in the year 2296. That is 219 years after the Earth was devastated by nuclear war, forcing the survivors who were highly vulnerable to underground bunkers and leaving everyone else to fend for themselves above ground. Lucy is the daughter of Lucy’s Vault 33’s mayor-like character, “Overseer Hank” (Kyle MacLachlan, Twin Peaks).
The famous game logo Vault Boy is said by Vanity Fair to be Lucy’s subterranean home’s mascot. There will even be an account of its beginnings. The inventive way that the series reimagines the origin of Vault Boy was described as “something that they came up with that’s just really smart” by Todd Howard of Bethesda.
Fans of the games will recognize Walton Goggins (Justified, The Hateful Eight) as the Ghoul, a character that seems perfect for the wry character actor. Walton’s creator, Jonathan Nolan, told Vanity Fair, “Walton’s equally adept at drama and comedy, which is so difficult.” “There is a chasm in time and distance between who this guy was and who he’s become, which for me creates an enormous dramatic question: What happened to this guy? So we’ll walk backward into that.”
According to Nolan, The Ghoul embodies every aspect of the Fallout universe. Nolan remarked, “He may be older, but he still has a lot of charisma and a swagger.” The portrayal of the character in the television series finds a balance between allowing Goggins to explore the humanity of the half-dead, half-immortal character and showcasing his deformed face through prosthetics and makeup. “It must be possible to witness Walton’s performance; he must appear like a Ghoul from the game and possess a certain level of hotness,” stated Nolan.
The first look at the television series adaptation of the Fallout television series
Nolan and Lisa Loy, the creators of Westworld, created the series. They say that the story’s retrofuturistic aesthetic, scathing social commentary, and themes of ambiguous morality are all shared by the games. The show’s executive producer, Howard from Bethesda, stated, “We had a lot of conversations over the style of humor, the level of violence, the style of violence. Look, Fallout can be very dramatic, dark, and postapocalyptic, but you need to weave in a little bit of a wink…. I think they threaded that needle really well on the TV show.”
On April 12, 2024, Fallout will debut on Amazon Prime Video.
