PlayStation 5 DualSense Controller’s price has been quietly increased by Sony

Share

Sony is raising costs once more, this time hiking the expense of standard PS5 DualSense controllers by $5. The PS5 standard DualSense controllers in black and white now start at $75, up from $70, and the rest have gone up from $75 to $80. The DualSense Edge remains unchanged and costs $200.

The price increase for DualSense hasn’t been officially announced by Sony, but it seems to have started recently. Wario64 was one of the first to notice the price increase, which is currently in effect at Best Buy as well as Sony’s PlayStation Direct store. Antonline via Amazon still offers the standard black and white controllers for $70, but it is unknown how long those prices will remain. As is customary, there are always deals to be had.

The price hike on DualSense controllers follows Sony’s recent price increases for the PlayStation 5 in Japan and other regions of the world (but not the United States).

Recently, Sony uncovered that PS5 hardware sales were down around 27% year over year for the organization’s first quarter of fiscal year 2024- – April 1 to June 30. Lifetime sales of PS5 have outperformed 60 million systems. Historically, console costs drop after some time because of the component costs descending, however, because of the pandemic and different factors, that isn’t the case this time around. In contrast to the United States, PS5 console prices have increased in Japan and other regions. Sony has said that the conditions of the global economy are a factor in its price hikes.

As far as concerns, Microsoft has likewise raised Xbox and Game Pass costs, leaving Nintendo as the only one of the big three console manufacturers to keep prices steady this generation.

A new report suggests that a PS5 Pro could be released this year and cost $600 or more. The expected release date for the new system would be October or November.

The standard PlayStation 5 DualSense controller’s global price has been quietly increased by Sony.

Despite no public declaration from the organization, myriad retailers including Sony’s own PlayStation Direct expanded the cost of all DualSense colorways by $5 today, September 9, 2024. Target, Best Buy, and Amazon all saw the cost rise as well.

The standard DualSense in White, Starlight Blue, Galactic Purple, Cosmic Red, Midnight Black, and Gray Camouflage currently costs $74.99 rather than $69.99, while the more expensive colors including Sterling Silver, Cobalt Blue, and Volcanic Red have expanded to $79.99 from $74.99.

The cost increment has been seen somewhere else in the world as well, incorporating a £5 expansion in the UK and a $10 expansion in Australia. The PS5 console itself has not seen any price increases announced or implemented.

The controller increase comes two weeks after Sony raised the PS5’s price significantly in Japan and appears to be nearing an official PlayStation 5 Pro announcement.

A nine-minute stream hosted by PlayStation 4 lead architect Mark Cerny will occur tomorrow, September 10, at 8 am Pacific/11 am Eastern/4 pm UK. While the PS5 Ace hasn’t been affirmed authoritatively, it has leaked time and time again and is nearly guaranteed to be the focus of the upcoming feature.
