Saso won her second title since 2021 last year after defeating her compatriot Shibuno Hinako by three strokes with a final-round score of 68.

The US Women’s Open is being hosted for the first time in Erin Hills, Wisconsin, and Saso, 23, is the star of a field of 156.

Eight former champions and three Olympic medalists, including the last gold medalists, Lydia Ko (Paris 2024) and Nelly Korda (Tokyo 2020), will compete in the women’s golf competition with the longest history. With 24 of the top 25 players scheduled to compete this week, Korda is ranked first in the world rankings as well.

Watch out for Saigo Mao, who won her first LPGA Tour title at the Chevron Championship, the year’s opening major, and will try to build on that historic achievement.
