From Small Town to Startup Success: The Story of Frontlines Edutech Founders

Introduction

In India’s booming EdTech space, there’s one name that’s making waves among Telugu students Frontlines Edutech. This is not your run-of-the-mill tech firm. It is an inspiring tale of two entrepreneurial founders, Sai Krishna Mantravadi and Upendra Gulipilli, who had modest small-town origins and founded a platform that’s empowering thousands of students.

This blog is a straightforward account of how Frontlines Edutech went from small-town beginnings to being a leading startup known throughout the country, particularly highlighting how this journey motivates Telugu learners to dream big and learn smart.

The Humble Beginnings – Small Town, Big Dreams

Sai Krishna Mantravadi (CEO) – The Passionate Educator

Sai Krishna Mantravadi (CEO) – The Passionate Educator

Sai Krishna is from Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh a small town with fewer exposures to global education and corporate life. Though he came from humble beginnings, Krishna studied Electronics and Communication Engineering at PVP Siddhartha Engineering College. But his passion for learning didn’t end there.

He further acquired two Master’s degrees from Deakin University, Australia in Engineering Management and Electronics.

Rather than establishing himself abroad, he came back to India with one mission:

In order to provide quality education to students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns, particularly for Telugu learners.

His international exposure coupled with local awareness were the driving factors for Frontlines Edutech.

Upendra Gulipilli (CTO) – The Gritty Engineer with a Vision

Upendra’s story is highly emotional and identifiable. He is from Vijayawada, born to an auto driver father, in a lower-middle-class family. His only route to success was through education.

He started off with a Diploma in Electronics and Communication, then finished his BTech at PVP Siddhartha. Early career at HighRadius and TCS provided him with solid exposure to backend development, Java, and live IT systems.

But even once he had stepped into the IT sector, Upendra never forgot the plight of rural students. He knew the disparity between employability and education — and that became his quest.

Collectively, these two brains formed a platform that closes the gap for thousands of Telugu learners.

From Meme Page to EdTech Revolution

Frontlines Media – The Viral Beginning

Krishna and Upendra started Frontlines Media in 2019, not as a startup, but as an Instagram meme-based job posting page. The concept was straightforward: employ humor and relatable content to keep Telugu students updated about job vacancies.

This innovative format soon went viral. The page reached more than 1 million followers, comprising primarily students and job aspirants from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

This taught them one big thing:

Telugu youth desired opportunities. They simply lacked access to proper platforms.

The Realization – Students Needed Skills, Not Just Notifications

Eventually, they saw a painful pattern. Most students applied for employment but did not have practical skills — particularly in coding, communication, and interviewing.

That’s when they decided to take the leap:

To turn Frontlines Media into an EdTech firm dedicated to career-oriented training — and Frontlines Edutech was born in 2022.

The Mission and Model of Frontlines Edutech

Frontlines Edutech is not another course-selling platform. It’s a student-first ecosystem built with the struggles of Telugu learners in mind.

Key Features:

  • Telugu + English courses
  • Affordable, high-quality tech education
  • Placement focus, not learning
  • Real-world interview preparation and project-based learning
  • Mentorship by industry experts

Their intention was not to compete with large EdTechs. Rather, they played to their strengths: community trust, local language, relatable trainers, and outcome-based learning.

Courses That Actually Help Students Get Jobs

The best part is the storytelling style — rather than dry lectures, trainers describe concepts in real-life analogies, local examples, and simple terms.

  • TCS
  • Infosys

  • Hyderabad and Bangalore-based startups

These students tend to post thank-you messages on social media, declaring how Frontlines Edutech transformed their lives — not merely by educating them, but by mentoring, encouraging, and advising.
