Fourth of July: Traditions and celebrations
Fireworks, parades, concerts, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, baseball games, and family reunions are all common celebrations of US Independence Day. These events build an awareness of patriotism among communities while also remembering the country’s history.
While households frequently celebrate with get-togethers and cookouts, many cities have big public fireworks displays. In honor of the country’s foundational ideals of liberty and democracy, public celebrations are organized and political leaders give speeches.
There is much more to the Fourth of July than just a day off from work or a chance to celebrate. It stands for independence, self-determination, and the independence to govern oneself without interference from foreign rule—the core principles of the American identity.
The American values of freedom and democracy are reflected in Independence Day, which has grown into a national holiday. Congress declared July 4th to be a federal holiday in 1870, and by 1938, all federal employees were paid for the holiday. The Fourth of July is celebrated today with a variety of customs, ranging from community festivals and family barbecues to public parades and fireworks. Concerts, fairs, and political speeches are held in cities all around the nation to honor the nation.
