Google Search Celebrates Squid Game Season 2 Release with an Easter Egg
Season 2 of Squid Game premiered on December 26 — a deliberate, thematic decision — and Google Search is commemorating the event with an easter egg.
When you search “squid game” on desktop or mobile, Google displays the floating invitation card from the hit series, as it often does at major pop cultural events. Tapping opens a full-screen overlay of the “Red Light, Green Light” game, which also serves as a search phrase.
You can disable sound in the bottom-right corner, but this simple mini-game works better with it and includes an ominous soundtrack. The Go and Stop buttons at the bottom of the screen control six characters.
As in the show, you must advance them forward when Younghee is not looking and stop when the creepily big robotic doll turns around. When you get detected, the consequences are much reduced in comparison to the series.
Google Search’s Squid Game is a great way to spend a few minutes this holiday season.
Squid Game Season 2 premieres more than three years after Season 1, with a final season set for 2025. The post-Christmas release date is hilarious, but it’s clearly ideal for bingeing the seven episodes.
