Where There Is a Will, There Is a Way: Hayson Tasher and the New Year, New Me Mindset in Security Entrepreneurship
In entrepreneurship, resilience often matters more than perfect timing. Few stories capture this truth better than that of Hayson Tasher, a California-based security professional and entrepreneur whose journey reflects the essence of the “Where there is a will, there is a way” philosophy, especially as the New Year, New Me trend gains momentum heading into 2026.
Tasher is the force behind OLD Patrolman Guard Services (OLDPGS), a licensed security firm offering uniformed armed and unarmed security guards along with alarm response services. As 2026 begins, Tasher enters the year with a renewed sense of purpose, backed by a growing ecosystem of security-affiliated companies and partners, working day to day and night to night both in the field and in the office.
But the road to building OLDPGS was anything but linear.
From Missed Opportunities to Hard-Won Clarity
Long before entrepreneurship, Tasher’s life intersected with professional sports and entertainment. In his early years, he had the opportunity to play basketball at an NBA level, even being offered a chance to come off the bench during a time when the league’s minimum salary hovered around $200,000 a year. Searching for direction, he let the opportunity pass.
Later, he earned a spot in the NBA Entertainment League, but once again didn’t show up, another chance that slipped by. At the same time, Tasher had an agent and manager signed to Hollywood casting, signaling yet another possible career path.
These moments, though marked by hesitation, became defining lessons. “Opportunity is key,” Tasher believes. “It’s up to the person to act on it or let it go by year after year.”
Security as a Calling, Not a Backup Plan
Tasher eventually found his footing in security, a field where discipline, trust, and accountability are non-negotiable. In the early stages of OLDPGS, his company handled security detail for legendary NBA head coach Phil Jackson at the Fonda Theatre. It was a full-circle moment, blending his past in basketball with his present in protection and operations.
What set Tasher apart early on was experience. He came equipped not only with certificates, licenses, and permits, but also with credentials tied to TSA and Homeland Security. Beyond that, he worked as a bail bondsman and bounty hunter, expanding his understanding of enforcement, risk, and real-world security challenges.
Over time, Tasher realized something critical: he had more services to offer than the company he was working for. That realization became the catalyst for building his own brand.
OLD Patrolman Guard Services: Built in the Field
Today, OLD Patrolman Guard Services operates with a clear mission: “Dedicated to administering a safe and secure environment.” The brand’s promise, “Security you can count on,” is more than a slogan.
What truly differentiates Tasher from competitors is that he continues to work security details personally in the field, while also collaborating closely with account managers and dispatch operations teams. This hands-on leadership ensures accountability and operational insight that can’t be replicated from behind a desk.
For clients, this means a security partner who understands both frontline realities and back-end logistics.
The New Year, New Me Philosophy, Applied
As the New Year, New Me trend dominates conversations, Tasher frames it less as reinvention and more as recommitment. His life lesson is simple but grounded in experience: sometimes in life, we have to work in the field, not by choice. But when opportunity finally arrives in the field of your dreams, where there’s a will, there’s a way.
This mindset continues to guide his leadership and mentorship, particularly for those who feel stuck between obligation and aspiration.
A Vision Beyond Borders
Looking ahead, Tasher’s ambitions extend well beyond California. With dual citizenship in the United States and Belize, he plans to expand security services into Belize and Central America, bringing structured, licensed protection models to new markets.
He also envisions retail locations under the OLD Patrolman brand, offering batons, tactical gear, firearms, and related equipment, creating an integrated ecosystem that blends services with trusted security products.
A Brand Rooted in Willpower
Hayson Tasher’s story isn’t about overnight success; it’s about persistence, accountability, and learning from the opportunities once missed. As OLDPGS steps into 2026 stronger and more connected than ever, Tasher stands as proof that growth doesn’t require a perfect past, only the will to keep moving forward.
In a world where many wait for ideal conditions, his journey reinforces a timeless truth: where there is a will, there is a way.
