Johan Styren’s Evolving Role in iGaming: From LeoVegas to Affiliate Marketing
Johan Styren, former CEO of LeoVegas and co-founder of Dilanti Media, known for guiding LeoVegas from a startup to a $1 billion valuation, Styren has now turned his attention to affiliate marketing, reflecting a broader industry shift and his evolving expertise.
Reflecting on his time at LeoVegas during a recent panel, Styren commented on the company’s growth and the challenges of launching a mobile-first Sports Betting. He remarked, “The mobile-first strategy we adopted was pivotal to our success.” By 2017, LeoVegas had grown from its modest beginnings in 2012 to securing a place on Nasdaq Stockholm’s midcap list.
At Dilanti Media, which Styren co-founded with Valentin Alsen, formerly of Catena Media, the focus is on refining technical approaches to affiliate marketing. “Affiliate marketing is competitive, and our aim is to develop solutions that address operational challenges,” Styren explained.
In addition to his leadership at Dilanti Media, Styren serves as a board member at Hero Gaming and an advisor to Spiffbet’s business. His role with Spiffbet includes integrating its acquisition, Manisol, to expand market presence and accelerate growth. According to Styren, “This move is designed to leverage collective strengths and drive expansion.”
Styren’s reflections also touch on his experiences at LeoVegas beyond the iGaming sector. He discussed the company’s decision to launch a sportsbook in 2016, acknowledging the challenges but emphasizing the importance of timing and efficiency, particularly during Euro 2016. “Entering the sports-betting market required a product that could compete not only in design but also in speed,” Styren said.
His insights extend to the significance of a clear business narrative. Styren believes that in a rapidly evolving industry, telling a focused, well-defined story is as crucial as innovation. This approach, he noted, enhances a company’s ability to navigate new markets and capitalize on opportunities.
As Styren continues to navigate the iGaming and affiliate marketing sectors, his focus remains on adapting to change and addressing emerging challenges. He remains committed to exploring new avenues for growth, while ensuring the companies he leads or advises remain competitive in a shifting landscape.
