Varada Sethu will take Millie Gibson’s place in “Doctor Who” after just one season
Millie Gibson, the star of “Doctor Who,” is leaving the show after just one season.
In the show’s 15th season, Varada Sethu, star of “Jurassic World Dominion,” will play the Doctor’s companion opposite Ncuti Gatwa.
Gibson made her debut on the venerable science fiction program in December’s Christmas special. Before this, Gibson was best known for her role as Kelly Neelan on the British soap opera “Coronation Street.” She co-starred with Gatwa as companion Ruby Sunday, the Fifteenth Doctor.
In the upcoming 14th season, which is scheduled to premiere in May on the BBC in the United Kingdom and Disney+ internationally, Gibson will reprise her role as Ruby.
However, a source confirmed that Sethu will play Gatwa’s companion for Season 15, which is currently filming in Wales. About her role, nothing more has been disclosed. Sethu has acted in the television series Andor and Mrs. Sidhu Investigates.
Gatwa, who acted in “Barbie” as well, will continue in her role as the Doctor.
The new seasons of the cult series are co-produced by Bad Wolf and will be written and executive produced by showrunner Russell T. Davies, who revived it back in 2005.
Among the guest stars for Season 14 are Indira Varma (“Obsession”), Jonathan Groff from “Glee,” singer Bonnie Langford, and Yasmin Finney (“Heartstopper”). In November of last year, “Doctor Who” celebrated its 60th anniversary.
