Album “Short n’ Sweet” by Sabrina Carpenter Hits at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, Surpassing Travis Scott
Sabrina Carpenter has something extra sweet to celebrate.
The 25-year-old pop star got her first Billboard No. 1 following the August 23 release of her sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet.
According to Luminate via Billboard, Carpenter’s latest album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart, selling 362,000 album units more than Travis Scott’s 2014 mixtape Days Before Rodeo, which debuted at No. 2.
Short n’ Sweet is 2024’s third-biggest debut overall, with Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter (407,000 units) and Taylor Quick’s The Tortured Poets Department (2.61 million units) guaranteeing the top two spots, per Variety.
Insight about the “Sharpest Tool” singer’s chart domination comes only days after she offered a shrewd remark that seemed to allude to Nicki Minaj’s 2018 fight for the No. 1 spot when her album Queen went toe-to-toe with Scott’s Astroworld.
Carpenter wrote on Thursday, August 29 via X, which was formerly known as Twitter, “This one’s for Nicki.”
“Shout out Sabrina Carpenter, shout out all the Sabrina Carpenter fans” was the message that Minaj sent in support of the Girl Meets World album later that evening.
Back in 2018, the “Barbie World” artist, 41, apparently disagreed with how Scott’s tour and merch sales were integrated into his chart numbers, claiming that Billboard wouldn’t allow her to do likewise.
“Travis sold over 50K of these. With no requirement of redeeming the album,” she wrote on X. “With no dates for a tour, etc. I spoke to him. He knows he doesn’t have the #1 album this week.”
In her online tirade, Minaj also took aim at Drake and Scott’s then-girlfriend Kylie Jenner.
Minaj continued, “I put my blood sweat & tears into writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling ppl to come see her & Stormi.”
The rapper also noted that women are frequently “systemically blackballed out of their positions” without being able to “fight back” during her online rant.
On Sunday, August 18, Scott dropped a re-release of his Days Before Rodeo mixtape to honor its 10th anniversary.
The 33-year-old “Trance” artist released six deluxe versions of the album by Friday, August 30. These included Vault 1, Vault 2, Vault 3, Vault 4, Live from Atlanta, and Chopped & Screwed.
