Metaverse.SG Founder Mr. Buzz Told His Story of Becoming a V3V Ventures Partner in His @buzz Telegram Channel
Mr. Buzz is a creator of Metaverse.SG, a Web3/NFT news portal. Recently he also became a partner with V3V Ventures, so he’s not just developing his own project, but looking for other projects to invest in. He told the story of this transformation in his Telegram channel @buzz (that short username is an investment too).
In 2021 he launched Metaverse.SG. The idea was to “bring Web3 and NFT market news to the world and offer convenient access to real-time data and analytics on all existing NFT projects.” This website grew organically, particularly attracting readers from Singapore (and Asia in general).
What was less expected, though, was the success of the DeBank channel. DeBank is an online crypto community with a paid option to create “channels”. Users authorize on DeBank using crypto wallets, and the channels have a distinct feature: they show not only a number of subscribers, but also the cumulative net worth of all the subscribers’ wallets. While the number of subscribers can be manipulated and inflated, it’s harder to fake the sum, so it shows where the money is.
It turned out that people with money were interested in the Metaverse.SG channel: the combined wallet balances of that channel subscribers overcame the 500 million dollar mark. And audience like that is valued.
So the V3V Ventures fund became interested in that project. It’s based in Singapore, so the popularity of Metaverse.SG probably helped, too. The fund got in touch with Mr. Buzz and offered to buy the project. While working on this acquisition, both sides understood they have a lot in common. So in the end, not only V3V did buy Metaverse.SG, the fund also invited Mr. Buzz to join as a partner.
He accepted the invitation. So now, while still being involved in Metaverse.SG, he also helps in discovering new projects/assets for V3V to invest into. One such investment was Toncoin cryptocurrency (it already grew more than twice since V3V invested in it). And later the fund expanded its presence in the TON/Telegram ecosystem and started investing in promising Telegram usernames (they are implemented as NFTs on TON). The @buzz username, which is currently used for Mr. Buzz’s public channel in Telegram, was acquired as part of that process.
