Instagram will Release a New Feature Similar to Find My Friends for Live, Real-time Location Sharing
Real-time live location sharing is possible with Apple’s Find My Friends, which is now incorporated into the Find My app. A similar feature that allows users to share their location with friends and family directly from Instagram will soon be available to Instagram users.
Instagram users can share their live location
On Monday, Meta revealed several upcoming features for Instagram direct messages, including the ability to share locations. The function intends to make it easier for users to plan hangouts straight from their Instagram discussions, according to a blog post from the company. “Spend more time together, and less time coordinating,” the message says.
Only DMs or group chats are permitted to divulge the location for privacy concerns. By default, the feature is off, and Instagram automatically stops sharing real-time locations after an hour. Additionally, the app will indicate when the location is being shared. Of course, you should never provide someone you don’t know with your location.
Instagram does not offer the ability to share your location with others at all times, unlike Apple’s Find My. Meta confirmed earlier this year that it was testing a feature that would display friends’ locations on a map, much like Snap Map. Users have not yet been able to access the feature, though.
Instagram is introducing new sticker packs for direct messages and custom nicknames for group chat participants in addition to location sharing.
The App Store offers the Instagram app for iPhone for free. To enjoy the newest features, make sure your device is running the most recent version of the app. Note that according to Meta, the location-sharing feature is only accessible in “selected countries.”
