THINGS TO AVOID DURING A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN WITH KRIS LAL
We sat down with Kris Lal from www.curatorsocial.com to discuss a few points on what to avoid when running a social media campaign. With hundreds of successful campaigns under his belt, he and his team and Curatorsocial have a few insights on how to get the best out of your social media marketing initiatives. From his soon to be released free guide for social media marketers we acquired some of the CEO and Founders commentary on the subject.
What are some things to look out for when running a campaign?
Like ALL marketing, it’s important to engage in a way that is considerate to your audience and in line with your brand. Influencer marketing and the rise of ‘fake news’ has left a sour taste in many consumers’ mouths in relation to social media. It’s no surprise that it can be difficult to ascertain if it’s the right thing for you and your business when there is so much negative press and coverage on the aforementioned. Our rule of thumb is always to lean into authenticity and your audience. If your customers wouldn’t appreciate or resonate with it, it’s probably a good idea to steer away from it!. In saying this by all means you SHOULD be trying out new methods and ways to market, just ensure your cognisant about what aligns with your message. For example, if you are marketing to young aspiring entrepreneurs, you may want to engage with an influential who has credible business experience and successes as opposed to a random celebrity with little to no resonance for your campaign.
What are some of the craziest situations you’ve come across running a campaign?
We have been very fortunate to have worked with a really great list of talent and brands who have made our job fairly straightforward and easy. One situation that comes to mind is an influencer that had flights booked on the WRONG date for a campaign and literally got to the airport ready to board. Another situation we had was an influencer who literally went rogue (missing for a day or so) whilst on a campaign shoot, we were worried sick but it turned out they had just popped out to another regional location to get some content for the brand. Communication is key!. Overall as mentioned we’ve been fortunate enough to mitigate issues well before they arise.
